You never know what you will get to see at our rehearsal! JJ Hawkins stopped by and got the chance to direct "The Irish Blessing" that we sing at the end of every rehearsal. Below is JJ's reaction. Photo courtesy of Jay Berry)

"Got to cross an item off of my bucket list tonight. I was fortunate enough to be selected to direct The Irish Blessing at the close of the Southern Gateway Chorus rehearsal at Harmony Lodge(where I practically grew up running around on the risers). On my way back to the hotel, I thought about my Popeye and how he directed it, and I really missed him. Love you Popeye, and I hope I did you proud tonight. I hope some day I can be one-tenth of the man you were!

It really felt like a homecoming of sorts, and it was great to see so many familiar faces. Growing up my friends used to think I was weird for how often I went up to Cincinnati(I am from Louisville, KY), but they couldn't understand that you guys are like a second family to me. Every time I walk into the Lodge, happy memories flood into my mind, and when Jeff asked me to direct the Irish Blessing at the end, I couldn't believe I had finally been chosen for such a prestigious honor

To the leadership team, I say "thank you," for building in time for me to present about Harmony Foundation and the outreach efforts we support."

JJ spoke to Gateway as a representative of the Harmony Foundation the charitable arm of the Barbershop Harmony Society devoted to spreading singing throughout our culture.  That's what we build.
