The Barbershop Harmony Society is an international organization with choruses and quartets all around the world. Chapters are grouped into districts, which hold conventions in the spring and fall to provide education opportunities as well as chorus and quartet competitions. The Southern Gateway Chorus is a member of the Johnny Appleseed District, which is made up of chapters in Ohio, western Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. The Johnny Appleseed District's fall convention was held last weekend (October 16-18) in Wooster, Ohio, and the event included a quartet semifinals competition on Friday evening, chorus competition on Saturday morning, and quartet finals on Saturday afternoon.

Southern Gateway Chorus members Andrew Wittenberg (baritone), Jason Murray (bass), Zac Coleman (lead), and Brett Bellman (tenor) formed their quartet "Harmonic Convergence" last year and have exploded onto the district scene, making it to the quartet finals last spring. Last weekend, they were the 'most improved' quartet, finishing 3rd place with a score of 77.9. Congrats again, Harmonic Convergence... We can't wait to see what you do next!

SGC quartet Emeritus (tenor Scott Brannon, lead Kent VanderKolk, baritone Gary Ellerhorst, bass Mike Bell) qualifying for the district quartet finals and also qualifying for the international seniors competition at MidWinter.
